Read the text and fill in the missing words.

(gutter, grumbled, stumble,  tugged, mill,  dragging, stone)

Once upon a time there was a man who very rich. He lived in a fine house near a large village.

In front of the house was a road on which many persons travelled every day.

The rich man was very kind to the travelers. They often rested in the shade in front of his house. If they were thirsty, he gave them water to drink. If they were hungry, he gave them food to eat.

But the rich man was sad because he saw so many idle persons passing by. So he placed a big stone in the middle of the rode. Then he watched to see what would happen.

By and by, came a man who was leading a cow. He ___1_______because the stone was in his path. But he only walked around it, and went on his way.

The next to come was a farmer on his way to the mill. He also grumbled because the stone was in his way. But he drove around it, and went on to the______2_______.

So it was all day long. Everyone who saw the  stone, grumbled because it was there. But no one tried to roll it out of the way. At last, just before night, the miller’s boy came along. He had worked hard all day, and he was very tired. He wished to be home in time for supper. When he came to the ___3________-, he stopped and said:

“It will soon be dark. Someone may ______4______ over that stone and hurt himself. I will roll it out of the road.”

The stone was very heavy. The miller’s boy____5_______ and tagged at it, and it last he rolled it into the ______6______.

Then in the place where the stone had been, he found a pot, full of shining gold pieces. It had been hidden under the stone. He tried to lift it,  but it was too heavy. He could only drag it along the ground. On the pot was written:

“This pot and the gold belong to the one who takes away the stone”.

So the miller’s boy went home, _______7________ the pot of gold behind him. The rich man heard his merry song and he was glad because he had found someone who was not afraid of hard work.
